Playing original folk rhythm and sultry blues,
SuGaR consists of
soulful songwriter & lead vocalist DonnCherie Mckenzie,
Bass Man Gavin Greenewalt,
and Dan Blondin on lead guitar.
This original and eclectic Vermont based group modernizes the nostalgia of juke-joint blues and Americana lyrics. SuGaR brings you back to the heart of music with stories told through original compositions and new takes on timeless treasures.
DonnCherie McKenzie is a singer-songwriter in Burlington, VT. Though originally from Seattle, WA., she has had music in her soul since she was old enough to talk. Since she started late night jamming with friends in the basement she has lent her rough and raw vocal styling to various local bands and music projects around Vermont. "DC" is influenced by blues, folk, jazz, rock n roll and country music. In The Band SuGaR, her most recent project, she sings lead vocals and plays rhythm guitar.
Dan Blondin is a multi instrumentalist and vocalist from Burlington, Vermont. Since he first began playing guitar at the age of 14, Dan has performed in various bands with music styles encompassing Rock, Blues, and Traditional Folk. In 2002, Blondin was invited to join Colorado based folk/rock group The Samples, contributing rhythm guitar, mandolin, and backing vocals. With The Samples, he toured the U.S. extensively, culminating with a final show at Red Rocks in 2007. Currently he provides lead/rhythm guitar and harmony vocals for The Band SuGaR.
Gavin Greenewalt keeps the heart of Sugar pulsing with his low-end thump. After a long hiatus from playing music, he picked up the bass again in 2012 and attacked the instrument with new vigor. Heavily influenced by the sounds of funk, reggae, and heavy rock, Gavin adds extra dimensions to the already eclectic sound of The Band Sugar.
